01.05 General Description of Information

Phase 1 - A suggested method would be to include in your policy, a statement that explicitly define what constitutes Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) within our organization, referencing the NIST 800-171 Rev. 3 definition and categories. We should document the types of CUI we handle, where it's stored (e.g., specific systems, cloud environments), and who has access to it. Furthermore, the policy should outline procedures for identifying, marking, safeguarding, and disseminating CUI, including requirements for access controls, encryption, and incident response. Finally, it should emphasize the importance of employee training on CUI handling procedures and the consequences of non-compliance.
