03.03 Audit and Accountability (AU)

Phase 1 - A suggested method would be to include in your policy, a statement that mandates detailed audit logging for all systems processing CUI. This should include capturing user logins, data access, modifications, and deletions, along with system events. We need to establish a centralized log management system with sufficient storage to retain these logs for a defined period, as specified by regulatory requirements. Furthermore, the policy should outline procedures for regular log review and analysis, including automated alerts for suspicious activity. This will enable us to detect and respond to security incidents promptly, maintain accountability for user actions, and demonstrate compliance with NIST 800-171 Revision 3's Audit and Accountability requirements.
